Drawing Fundamentals II

WEEK 1 of Drawing Fundamentals II focused on the one point perspective. This type of perspective is used to create an illusion of space and uses one vanishing point.

First week's assignment was to draw either a landscape or a room in one point perspective.

I decided to draw a landscape, and used the paper size 9"x12" and HB pencil.

WEEK 2 focused on the two point perspective where I had to create an illusion of space again, but this time using two vanishing pointes.

For the second week’s assignment I draw the room. I used the paper size 9"x12" and charcoal.

WEEK 3 focused on the facial features where I had to draw different facial parts.

The assignment was to draw right and left eye, nose, ear, mouth and a peace of the hair. I used the paper size 18" x 24" where I draw  six 4" x 4" squares, and I used HB, B, 4B, 6B pencils.

WEEK 4 focused on applying what was learned in the previous week when drawing facial features to draw a full self portrait.

For the self portrait I used the paper size 10" x 13 and the range of pencils from HB to 6B.

WEEK 5 focused on practicing how to draw the human figure.

For this week’s assignment I had to draw 8 drawings:

Drawing One: 1-minute gesture drawing
Drawing Two: 3-minute gesture drawing
Drawing Three: 1-minute gesture drawing
Drawing Four: 6-minute gesture drawing
Drawing Five: 1-minute gesture drawing
Drawing Six: 10-minute gesture drawing
Drawing Seven: 4-minute close-up drawing
Drawing Eight: 30 to 45-minute gesture drawing

I used HB pencil for this assignment. Paper size is 8.5” x 11”

WEEK 6 was final week where I had to pick one of the poses from the previous week and work fully on it, I was not time limited this time.

I chose the same pose that I used for the 45 minutes drawing. The paper size is 9" x 12", and I used pencils from HB to 6B.

Comment

I truly enjoyed both the Drawing Fundamentals I and Drawing fundamentals II courses. I didn't expect these two courses would challenge me as much as they did. The last time I had drawn was when I was a child (I'm 27 now), so I haven't drawn in at least 15 years, and for that reason, every week before I started drawing, I was scared when I saw what the assignment was.

I know it may sound funny, but after these two courses I feel like I see the world with different eyes and notice all the little details, where shadows and highlights are, think about lines, shapes and textures and how I would put all that on paper.

I also now firmly believe now that anyone can draw.
